Carbon Saving - Energy efficiency at Whitehall

Willmott Dixon Interiors is leading a bid on a Technology Strategy Board competition entitled Energy Efficient Whitehall. Working with Re-Thinking, our in-house sustainability consultancy, and Datum Phase Change, our proposal comprises installation of Datum’s innovative carbon-saving ceiling tiles in some of the meeting rooms at the Government’s Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) office.

The tile material absorbs heat levels above 23˚C, stores it then slowly releases it when the temperature in the room drops. With the room temperature remaining constant, the tiles all but negate the need for air conditioning, and as the product is a like-for-like swap with existing ceiling tiles, it offers perfect carbon reduction retrofit technology. We are now one of the remaining 25 bids out of an initial 125, and are hoping that our final report will secure us a demonstration area within the DECC office at 3 Whitehall Place.
