Transforming Lives - Making the most of a demolished Victorian hospital

Maximising the amount of materials that we recycle or re-use is now considered and planned on all projects. Our Twickenham Road project in Isleworth, for example, comprises 280 apartments built on land formerly owned by the adjacent West Middlesex University Hospital. As part of the construction process we demolished a disused Victorian hospital and recycled and re-used a considerable amount of the materials:

•  360,000 bricks cleaned/packaged on site
•  10,000 bricks retained for the boundary wall
•  23,000 Welsh slates
•  Four lorry loads of timber fl ooring
•  14 tonnes salvageable ironwork
•  Four pallets of catches and hinges
•  170 tonnes scrap steel
•  2400 m3 of recycled timber, chipped and re-cycled
•  24,000 tonnes of crushed and screened hard material
