The Willmott Dixon Management Trainee Scheme was established in 1979 with an initial intake of 20 trainees. Over the past 30 years the scheme has grown and developed to become one of the leading management trainee schemes within the Construction Industry.
We now recruit, on average, 30-40 trainees annually within a variety of construction disciplines, including Site Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Buying, Design & Build and Business Development. We also have trainees within the support functions of Finance, IT and Human Resources.
The trainee scheme is available to people across a range of academic backgrounds.
Applicants can be:
| Entry Qualifications | Training Period |
| A levels, BTEC, Adv GNVQ, AVCE or equivalent | 4 - 5 years |
| Construction related HNC / HND | 3 years |
| Graduates | 2 - 3 years |
Currently as part of the programme, alongside a structured training programme, trainees attend a residential training course provided by Construction Skills (formerly the Construction Industry Training Board) where they experience “hands-on” trade skills such as bricklaying, joinery and painting. This allows them to gain a broader understanding of all aspects of construction work. Willmott Dixon is unique in this as we are the only UK Construction company to offer such a training course.
Trainees also organise and participate in annual Trainee Activity Weekends which allows them to meet socially in interesting and challenging environments. Past activities have included clay-pigeon shooting, gorge-jumping, paintball, quad-biking, laser shooting and white water rafting.
Each year, in November, we hold a prestigious ‘Trainee of the Year' award evening with approximately 140 people in attendance. A video of the finalists is shown, various speakers participate and finally, the trophy, financial prizes and certificates are handed over!
In addition to our Management Trainees we also offer 'year-out' placements for under-graduates studying a full-time industry related sandwich degree.
