I had been an electrician at Hammersmith & Fulham Council for almost 5 years when I TUPE transferred over to Willmott Dixon Partnerships in November 2005. Right from the beginning I was asked about my aspirations for the future and was given opportunities to coach and develop other colleagues.
I was promoted to a working supervisor and soon became the Electrical Supervisor for voids, reactive repairs and all other electrical works undertaken at the branch. I currently manage a team of 10 electricians.
The Company has supported my development both professionally and personally by giving me the opportunity to take part in varied training programmes. I have completed the Seventeenth Editions Electrical Regulations Certificate and I have also had the opportunity to attend the Supervisors Academy, which gave me the knowledge and skills to lead my team more effectively to gain better results. As a result of this I am now tutoring other colleagues as part of the Supervisors Academy programme and I get great satisfaction from guiding and supporting other trades people to become supervisors – it’s really motivating. I’m enthusiastic about what I do and it’s great to be able to pass this on to others.
I’m really proud of being part of the team at Hammersmith, two trades people from our branch have just won the Top Trades Person of the Year awards at the annual Driving Change Conference, which is a testament to all our hard work and drive to achieve excellent standards.
In the near future I am looking forward to getting more candidates through the Supervisors Academy and longer term I’d like to see myself as a branch Production Manager. Willmott Dixon Partnerships have given me so many opportunities to learn and develop and I am excited about what the future may hold.
