Re-Thinking is made up of a team of experts which helps Willmott Dixon Group stay ahead in sustainability matters by:
- Providing services and advice to colleagues and clients, such as carrying out energy surveys or finding past work to match bid requirements.
- Developing and spreading knowledge of best practice such as case studies and technical skills both internally and externally. This includes applying for and maintaining awards and accreditations such as the Sunday Times Top 100 Green Business, Business in the Community and the Global Reporting Initiative.
- Offering specialist know-how in areas like passivhaus, whole life costing, the Eurban timber build system, green roofs, Soft Landings graduated handover and low carbon retrofits. This all helps our clients meet legislative targets for their projects and / or boost the energy efficiency of their assets.
- Setting and policing group targets such as meeting zero waste to landfill by 2012 and becoming carbon neutral.
- Helping projects meet external verification targets such as BREEAM and the code for sustainable homes. Our experts also certify processes and carry out post occupancy evaluations for our own records and to improve our work.
- Working with environmental groups such as the UK Green Building Council and the Aldersgate Group to encourage the Government to set tougher environmental targets and partnering directly with government, the civil service and other policy bodies.
- Developing and carrying out sustainability training to help colleagues meet targets including those in our 10 point sustainability project criteria
- Helping develop community outreach such as canvassing opinion on developments or influencing user behaviour among home renters among our Services division customers
